I'd been listening to the Maccabeat's hanukah song many times over when I saw they also YouTubed a version of Lecha Dodi. It turned out to be set to the tune Hallelujah as per Leonard Cohen. The same day I was listening to Pachebel's Canon in D and thought it might work with Lecha Dodi. Pachebel wrote this Canon for J.S. Bach's wedding and Lecha Dodi itself is a wedding poem (...boi kalah, boi kalah...). It turns out the chorus works fine however arranging the canon for full voice is my next challenge if I pursue this combination of lyrics and music.
A further note of explanation about this - the descending scale in 4/4 x 2 matches with the accents of le'cha do'di l'krat ka'lah p'neh sha'bbat n'kab'lah...providing a foundation upon which the verses may build.
