The Lecha Dodi Project

Tonight noted the beginning of the Literary Research component of my lecha dodi project. I'm to learn at Pardes in J-town for three weeks this coming July. The fourth week in Israel will be spent in the North, in Safed. Meanwhile, I am touching base with Reuven Hammer's Or Hadash and its wonderful commentary on this significant poem.

My project is to consist of three parts: a calligraphed visual art piece, tying in with my association with the American Guild of Judaic Art, an original musical composition, and a commentary on the poem which unpacks and analyzes Lecha Dodi in light of its author, Sh
lomo Halevy Alkabetz (1505-1584).

I use Zotero and Vue to organize my work. I am a third year student at Pacifica Graduate Institute.

  1. Am very excited ... You're the first person I've found actively researching R. Alkabetz and Lecha Dodi... would would be very interested in discussing what you are doing with Lecha Dodi... Summer of '07 discovered hidden verse(s) within Lecha Dodi while studying with R. Daniel Goldfarb at the Masorti Yeshiva in Jerusalem... have been researching R. Alkabetz and Lecha Dodi since...

  2. Todah rabah for your comment, RL. I met R. Goldfarb in the summer of '05 and was also in conversation with R. Gail Diamond. I plan to learn this summer ('11) either at Pardes or Masorti...will definitely explore this information regarding "new" verse(s)embedded within this already crypto/symbolic story-poem. JNB
